Why you Should Stay Future-Focused

 Stay Future-Focused Stay Future-Focused

Ever been driving along thinking about your dreams and goals. Picturing yourself in your most perfect life then WHAM reality hits that your broke and living paycheck to paycheck?

This present focus happens to a lot of people. An experiment “the marshmallow test” was conducted years ago by professor Walter Mischel. What he did was bring a bunch of 4-year-olds into a room one at a time. Mischel would then place a marshmallow in front of the child and tell them they were allowed to eat it now, but if they would wait 15 minutes before eating it, then they would be given two marshmallows.

I thought simple enough until I spent time with a four-year-old.

Here were the findings. Something along the lines of 70% of the kids ate the marshmallow immediately while 30% waited the full 15 minutes. What is the point of all this?

The kids that that waited for the 15 minutes when researchers followed up with them 15 years later had some very telling stories. These kids became higher achievers than the kids who ate immediately. In whatever field they chose academics, arts or sports they performed at significantly higher levels than the other children.

The ability to focused on Future gains or delayed gratification is one of the best indicators of success in the future.

People tend to focus on what is right in front of them instead of looking at where they are going. This is why so few people achieve their dreams. If you want to go big and hit your goals, then you have to delay gratification. Focus on the big goals and let the now take care of itself.

Get disciplined as hell knowing that the things you do today, echo in our future. You do the things now not because you must but because of the benefits of the future. Living for today is a sure fire way to go broke quickly and fail at your life’s mission.

The marshmallow study has been duplicated several times you can even find YouTube videos on it. The results remain the same 70% eat the marshmallow instantly while 30% wait the 15 minutes. Learn to delay gratification now and stay future-focused and watch how big your life gets.
